I recently had my roof (1700 sq. ft.) re shingled with asphalt roofing shingles. The roof is 60+ years the roof deck consists of 1×6 t&g shiplap boards. Due to the shrinkage in the shiplap boards the contractor recommended that the older roof be covered over using 7/16" osb prior to the shingle installation. This was done. However, upon inspection in the attic it appears that the ends of the osb (4′ side) missed the rafters due to the irregular spacing of the rafters. What is evident is that 1" of the 21/2" nail is now sticking out from the shiplap board and only going through the osb and shiplap. Is this the correct method of installation or should have both ends of the osb been nailed into the rafter? The installation of 53 sheets of osb took about 10 hours at a cost of $4500.00 before taxes
