My kitchen window has been leaking during the past rains. I feel it’s the roof. Will I need to replace the entire roof or the area by the kitchen window? Will the roofer replace the boards on the roof as well?
Don,
First of all, you need to be sure that it is if fact your roof that’s leaking… although a window leaking by itself is highly unlikely.
The roofer will do whatever you pay them for. So if you pay to replace the boards, they will do it (I would require picture proof that it was actually done, because there are many unscrupulous contractors, that will say "we did it", but actually haven’t done it 🙂 …
Now as far as replacing entire roof – this is again a matter of where the water is coming from. Get your roof inspected, and a leak found first, and then make your decision.
How old is your current roof? Is there a dormer / valley / chimney / skylight above or near the leaking kitchen window? Those items are the first things that should be checked for leaks.
Good luck – Leo
