DIY Solar Metal Roof – Part 1: Planning & Budgeting

Solar panels are VERY cheap now (2017) and it only makes sense to own a solar roof, as opposed to leasing / PPA, which are a total scam. This summer I will be putting a metal roof on my house and as much as 12-14 KW of solar panels. What I plan to achieve with this is the following:

  1. Completely eliminate my very high electric bill: I pay over $0.20/kwh to a horrible Eversource (which bought National Grid and increased Massachusetts electric prices by over 40%!

Timberline Shingles Lawsuit Review

This is a summary of a recent large class action shingles lawsuit against GAF Timberline Shingles.

In 2013, a major legal action took place, with the claim that shingles have been prematurely cracking and failing on thousands of roofs, due to material and manufacturing defects.

Our goal is to inform you about GAF’s alleged sub-par manufacturing practices, deceptive marketing, and lack of care for the consumer, as related to this case.

While the GAF lawsuit has been settled in April 2015, we want to make you aware of this situation and summarize the case, because there is a complete lack of media coverage on this issue.

Roofing Shingles Prices are Going Down!

A big Roofing Materials Corporation has decided to drop prices for its popular line of Asphalt shingles by as much as 40% due to a significant decrease in the price of crude oil.

As of today WTI is under $48 / barrel and Brent is just around $55 / barrel.

Because petroleum byproducts are the main and most expensive component in manufacturing asphalt shingles, the company can afford to decrease the cost to consumer, while still making good profit margins.

Why is This Happening?

This move is seen by analysts as a big push by the company for complete market dominance.
